Meandering - Fathers's Day

“…if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.” 1 Timothy 5:8

Husbands and fathers who love Jesus understand the importance of ensuring that their families are provided for materially. Yet, faithfully providing for physical needs is only part of our God-given responsibilities. Beyond safe shelter, food in the fridge, and warm clothes, there is the joyful obligation of seeing that their souls are nourished and ever pointed to Jesus. Consistent family worship is all about humbly leading by example. Your reading the Scriptures, praying, praising and loving God will be the most effective way of cultivating family worship in your home. Our Father will hold us accountable in this. We are to provide and protect, but we are also to be a catalyst and set the tone in attending and participating as a family in the ministries of the church, opening up our homes to fellowship with other believers, and praying with, and for, our families daily. Our job doesn’t stop with the provision of material needs. Our children are body and soul, and as such, we, as fathers, are to primarily “bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4).

I have been blessed and helped by the ministry of Donald Whitney over the years. He has a great little book entitled, Family Worship, that I, and Pastor Jon, would commend to you. To help you not only check out the book, but receive on going help in the area of family worship, you can sign up here for a FREE 5-day email course on family worship at crossway.org/FamilyWorship101

The best way to see our church family be spiritually vibrant is to have all our little churches (individual families) be strong in their faith and love for the Lord Jesus Christ.

Thanks for Meandering along with me,
Pastor Daniel
