Meandering - Poets & Saints

“But now bring me a musician.” And when the musician played, the hand of the Lord came upon him." 2 Kings 3:15

It’s been awhile since I meandered about music. Music is one of God’s great gifts to us.  This past week I’ve been enjoying All Sons & Daughters' newest album. They are a Christian worship duo (Leslie Anne Jordan & David Alan Leonard) who perform in an acoustic, folk sound. They are very committed to their church where they lead worship.

This album, Poets & Saints, is not only musically beautiful, but it also combines two other interests for me, church history and theology. It’s a divine, musical journey that incorporates the works of such theologians, writers and poets as Augustine, Calvin, C. S. Lewis, John Newton, William Cowper, Saint Therese, Saint Francis, George MacDonald, and others. If some of these names are unfamiliar to you, this album will serve as a warm introduction to them for you.

Leslie and David have finessed musical elements of jazz, folk (and nu-folk), bluegrass, country and pop, to create a spiritually soothing, reflective, reverent and worshipful experience. I love anything that points me to Jesus and lifts my mind and heart in worship. This album does this for me. You may like it as well. I think the prophet Elisha, who knew of the blessing and power of music (2 Kings 3:15), would have liked it too!

Thanks for meandering along with me,
Pastor Daniel
