Reflection & Discussion
Warm-up. Looking forward to winter? Why/why not?
Read: 2 Peter 1:3-11. Pray for your study!
1. What does Jesus promise in John 15:9? How does Romans 8:1, 38-39 describe the security of the believer? Why is God’s promise trustworthy according to Titus 1:2?
2. When your feelings fluctuate or circumstances change, what truth from scripture help anchor your confidence?
3. According to 1 John 2:3-6, how can we know that we have come to know God? What evidence of spiritual life is described in 1 John 3:14? How does 2 Corinthians 5:17 describe what happens when someone is in Christ?
4. Why are obedience and love not causes of salvation but evidence of it? Which evidence of new life do you see in your own walk with Christ? Where do you desire to grow?
5. According to Romans 8:15-17, how does the Holy Spirit confirm our relationship with God? What does the Spirit prompt us to cry out in both passages? Why is this internal testimony vital to assurance?
6. What resources has God already given us for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3)? According to 2 Peter 1:5-10, what means of growing in grace do believers have to make their calling and election sure? What does Philippians 1:6 promise about God’s role in our perseverance? How can daily obedience and spiritual growth deepen your assurance?
7. So what difference does it make in your daily life to have full assurance of salvation in Christ?
