Reflection & Discussion

Warm-up. What’s something that made you anxious or fearful this week?

Read: 1 Peter 5:6-14. Ask God to bless your study.

1. What does it mean to be humble before God in the context of fear? Why does Peter link humility with overcoming anxiety?

2. How do you usually respond when fear shows up - do you shut down, lash out, hide, or try to control?

3. What would it look like to “cast” your anxieties and fears on God, trust his mighty hand and caring heart, practically?

4. Have you ever experienced peace in the middle of fear because of God’s presence or promises? Share.

5. What are the two common mistakes we make about the Devil? What do you think gives him opportunities to devour us?

6. How do we resist the Devil and his schemes (vv. 8-9)? What does it look like to be sober-minded and watchful in your life? Where do you need to be more active in resisting the Devil?

7. How can others walk with you in your fears rather than you walking alone? Each day this week write down: One fear or anxious thought. Prayerfully choose a scriptural truth that speaks into that fear

(e.g. 1 Peter 5:6-7, Psalm 56:3, Matthew 6:34) and then cast it upon God.
