Let Them Go! [Lyrics]

Tonight at Christmas in the Orchard, our annual children's Christmas concert, we sang a song from the recent Disney movie, Frozen... sort of.

Really, we sang a adaptation of the song, re-written by Sharalyn Dixon, which tells the story of the Israelites being rescued from Egypt by God. The story is told through a conversation between Pharaoh and Moses. Here are the lyrics:

Let Them Go

[To the tune of Let it Go from Disney's Frozen, words adapted by Sharalyn Dixon]

Moses:
There's a bush burning bright on the mountain tonight,
And I turn from my flock to see
A voice in the isolation
And I fall down to my knees

The Voice is calling to me, set my plans aside
Go to Egypt now, never more to hide.

Pharaoh, let them go, just set them free
To be the People God wants them to be
Pharaoh, God wants you to know
It's time to let them go!

Let them go! Let them go!
Don't hold them back anymore!
Let them go! Let them go!
Plagues are standing at your door!

Pharaoh:
I don't care what you're going to say
Go ahead and rage on,
These plagues never bothered me anyway!

It's funny how your people,
These Israelites, are so small,
You're trying to control me
But you won't get to me at all!

Moses:
It's time you saw what God can do
To test your limits and break through
No more whips, no chains, listen to me!
Set them free!

Let them go! Let them go!
Says the Master of wind and sky!
Let them go! Let them go!
Or your firstborn will all die!

Pharoah:
Here I stand!
Your people will stay!
Go ahead and rage on...

Moses:
God's angel passes over Egypt all around,
There's blood on doorstops where God's people can be found,
A great cry sounds out like a trumpet blast,
We're never going back,
Our chains are in the past!

Pharoah:
Let them go! Let them go!
Death is here with the break of dawn!
Let them go! Let them go!
I want them to be gone!

Moses:
Here we stand
In the light of day
Our battle is won!

Who could stand against God anyway?
