Reflection & Discussion

Read: Ephesians 5:1-3, Luke 12:13-21. Pray for your study time.

WHY DOES JESUS WARN US AGAINST COVETING?  (Luke 12:15)

Coveting makes us _______________  “We end up wanting what we don’t have and more of what we already have.” (Haddon Robinson)

Coveting robs us of _________________

Coveting _______________ us from God, causing us to doubt and ignore Him.

WHAT DOES GOD SEE INSIDE THE MIND OF A COVETING PERSON?

1.Self-____________ – “A man’s life consists not in the abundance of his possessions” (Luke 12:15b).

2.Self-____________]_____ – ‘…he thought to himself, ‘what shall I do?’” (Lk12:17a)

3. Self-____________]_ – a selfish way of seeing life – “I have no place to store my crops…my barns...my grains…my goods…” (Lk 12:17,18)

4.Self-________________ – “Then God said, ‘you fool! This night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’” (Lk 12:20)

If my mind contains the thoughts and attitude of a coveting person, I need to allow God to transform my mind from a coveting to a contented generous one.

By God’s grace, I can win the battle over coveting by taking several steps:

HOW CAN I LIVE TO GIVE AND NOT TO GET OR COVET?

_________________ on God who is the giver of all good gifts (Lk 12:24)

“Consider the ravens…God feeds them” (Lk 12:24).

“Every good gift …is from the Father of lights…” (James 1:17)(See also Ecclesiastes 5:19) __________________ to God as the ruler of your life

“But God said, ‘You fool’…Your life will be demanded…” (Lk 12:20)

“…rich toward God.” (Lk 12:21c)

God will rule over me but His awesome grace is mine when I allow Him to rule in me ___________________ in God but not in wealth

“But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.”         (1 Tim 6:6)

____________________ God’s blessings as you receive them

“Always being ready to share whatever God has given [you]. (1 Tim 6:18, NLT)

“Freely you have received, freely give.” (Matt.10:8b)
